Over-sized and inefficient motors
It is estimated that 70% of electricity in industry is used to power motors in various situations, including conveyors, machines, compressors and fans.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of motors are inefficient, causing wastage of up to 90% of their annual running costs. This is due to a tendency to oversize a motor and drive on specification, paired with numerous or poor quality rewinds and repairs.
As a result, up to 95% of the life-cycle cost of a motor is typically associated with the energy it consumes in operation.
How can CMR assist?
We conduct a prioritised review of your motors and drives on site, starting with the largest and highest use and gradually working downwards. This identifies where aging or inefficient equipment may benefit from replacement or retrofit.
Taking into account the whole life cost of equipment, we recommend upgrades or replacements that ensure the efficiency and reliability of the application.
We can then project manage the improvement programme, to ensure it is carried out with a reputable contractor and with minimum disruption and cost.
Once new equipment is in place, we can verify or demonstrate the savings, via temporary or sub metering.
